This is my son and daughter. He passed away in 2015 at the age of 26 from heart failure, and she left us in 2019 at 27 due to sepsis after battling cancer. My entire life changed.
I want to share my story about my daughter. She called me from the hospital, totally disoriented, and I rushed out of work to see her. She was in and out of consciousness, and they moved her to ICU shortly after I arrived. I couldn’t go in with her because of the hospital’s strict visiting hours.
That night, around 10 o’clock, I received a call from a strange number. It was a nurse in the ICU, and she told me my daughter wanted to speak with me. I was instantly alert. My daughter said she was worried because the antibiotics weren’t working and that she felt she was going to die. I reassured her to be patient and that the meds would help. She told me she loved me forever, and we hung up. Just before midnight, the hospital called to say we needed to come because she wasn’t going to make it; they had to put her on oxygen, and things didn’t look good.
When I saw her, I just knew her soul had left her body and that she was holding on for us to say goodbye. I couldn’t speak; I felt completely numb. Two days before she passed, she stared at the door and said, “My brother is waiting for me.”
I feel much calmer after her passing compared to my son’s, knowing they are together. They loved each other dearly, and I miss them both so much. We had a close bond, and sometimes the pain hits me so hard that it feels like I can hardly breathe. But I believe they are looking after me.
I have two grandchildren, aged 9 and 6, who miss their mom. I printed a lot of photos for them to remember her by because I never want them to forget her. This is my story in a nutshell.
