“Because of something sad that happened recently, I’ve decided to reactivate my account. A few years ago, I met a state trooper who helped me when I was stuck on the side of the road. He was so kind, taking me to a safe spot and talking about his happy life with his wife and twin kids. He was excited about being a good husband and father. I’ll never forget how positive and friendly he was.
I posted a picture thanking him for being so nice. Then, this weekend while I was working in the ER, one of my coworkers was reading an article aloud about a California Highway Patrol officer who had been killed while doing his job in Washington Park. I felt sick to my stomach, hoping it wasn’t the same officer. But sadly, it was him.
I tried hard to hold back tears. He had twin kids who are now four years old, and his wife had just had a new baby. It’s heartbreaking. His family, including his wife, kids, and other loved ones, will always remember him. I know I will. He was a good man doing his job, providing for his family, and living out strong family values. I’ll always be grateful for the kindness he showed me. His memory will stay in my heart forever.”
